The Clear Quran

a journey of faith and patience: reflections on my first Ramadhan

Dear future Mike,

As I sit here during my first Ramadhan, I want to capture this moment, the lessons, the struggles, and the beauty of this journey so that you can look back and remember how far you’ve come.

This Ramadhan has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Fasting was challenging at first, but with each passing day, I learned that it’s not just about abstaining from food and drink; it’s about discipline, gratitude, and drawing closer to Allah (SWT).

Through hunger, I felt the struggles of those less fortunate. Through thirst, I was reminded of the countless blessings I used to take for granted.

But more than anything, I’ve seen Allah (SWT)’s mercy firsthand. He has guided me, even when I doubted myself. He has forgiven me, even when I fell short. I’ve now understood that perfection isn’t what He asks of us. Sincerity and effort are. I know I won’t always get everything right, but I’m on the right path as long as I keep turning back towards Him.

Patience has been a great lesson for me.

In The Quran, Surah Yusuf teaches that “Patience is beautiful” and that “Those with patience will have beautiful endings.” I’ve realized that this applies to all I have learned in my learning, struggles, and growth. I won’t understand everything overnight. I won’t always be strong. But if I remain patient, trust Allah (SWT)’s plan, and keep striving, I know He will continue guiding me.

So, future Mike, if you ever feel lost, unworthy, or frustrated, remember that Allah (SWT)’s mercy is far more significant than your mistakes.

Keep praying, keep learning, and keep your heart open.

The journey isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.

With faith and hope,

Mike
